4worldlovers: The Wisconsin Go Hiking Club was organized in 1924. The purpose of the club is to "Promote health and good fellowship by hiking". As the name implies, the WGH club is primarily a hiking group, but camping and diversified entertainment events are also a part of our activities. Since all events are planned and run on a volunteer basis, the programs vary from year to year. Cost of events are shared equally by participants. The club currently has approximately 300 members, ranging in age from 25 to 80+.


The club usually has 5 hikes scheduled every week of the year in Milwaukee and the surrounding area. Hikes are a minimum of 4 miles, with many in the 5-8 mile range, and some longer treks of 10-22 miles.

Approximately 10-40 people participate in a typical hike. Check the Current Hikes for all the specifics concerning upcoming hikes including dates, places, times, length of hike and other pertinent information which may affect each hike.

Camping weekends and other special outings are scheduled throughout the year. Vacation trips are often planned by interested members. Other events include post-hike meals, photo sharing, picnics, the annual awards dinner and a Holiday party.

4worldlovers: Lakeshore State Park offers educational programs for teachers, community organizations, private events and the general public. The programs emphasize sustainability and stewardship of our natural and freshwater resources. These experiences are geared toward learners of all ages, and include walks, tours, lectures, hands-on outdoor activities and laboratory exercises.

Volunteering at the Park is a great way to make new friends, have fun and learn more about the Park and Lake Michigan. Opportunities include Park Ambassador, Volunteer Naturalist, Citizen Scientist, Lakeshore Caretakers, & Special Events.

Our Washington Park location was opened in 2007 to serve more neighborhood schools with our acclaimed Neighborhood Environmental Education Project. Now open to the public, after school programs for kids and community programs and activities for the whole family keep this branch humming with activity. We invite you to visit! Visit Milwaukee County Transit System's website and use the Google Trip Planner to get door to door directions by bus! We are located near the #30 and #57 bus routes. If you take route 30 get off the bus on Roberts Street. If you take route 57 get off the bus on North 40th Street.

The Urban Ecology Center at Washington Park is not on the Oak Leaf Recreational Trail, but its bordering streets do have bike lanes. We are located near the park entrance on 40th street between Lisbon Avenue and Vliet Street. When you arrive you will find bike racks on the lagoon side of our building. The closest parking lot in Washington Park to the Urban Ecology Center is off of 40th Street between Lisbon Avenue and Vliet Street. Enter from 40th Street into the parking lot adjacent to the County Parks Service Yard (north of the swimming pool). It’s best to park in this lot and walk along the driveway to the building with the Urban Ecology Center sign on it. There is limited parking available near the building as well.
