Home to the Milwaukee soccer programs for all but one season since their inception, Laura Moynihan Field at Engelmann Stadium holds the reputation as being one of the top soccer atmospheres in the region and it continues to undergo changes that help maintain its place as one of the premier soccer venues in the Midwest.

In the summer of 2016, a brand new video board and scoreboard were put into place. Standing the southwest corner of the field, the new video board is a Daktronics Galaxy Series board that allows for full color images, statistics, sponsorship and advertisement opportunities.

Prior to the 2010 season, a new, synthetic playing surface was installed at Engelmann Stadium. Behind a three-year fundraising effort, the facility received a FIFA 2-Star rated field and was renamed in honor of Laura Moynihan, the former Milwaukee women’s soccer coach and a pioneer for girls soccer in the state of Wisconsin.

The playing surface from Poly-Tan was the first of its kind in North America. The company had installed 46 current FIFA 2-Star rated fields in the world. FIFA final round competitions, Champions League matches and UEFA Cup matches can only be played on 2-Star fields. At the time of its installation, there were just five such fields in the CONCACAF region (North and Central America and the Caribbean).

Another fundraising campaign enabled the Milwaukee men’s and women’s soccer programs to begin playing night games in time for the 2006 season. A state-of-the-art four-pole system by Musco Lighting Company, a leader in stadium and field lighting, illuminates Engelmann Stadium.

Engelmann Stadium remains a unique atmosphere on the collegiate soccer scene. Nestled among a vibrant, urban campus, the facility unfolds into a stadium-like stage. The campus buildings that enclose the field, including Engelmann Hall, for which the stadium is named, provide an intimate setting for fans.

Engelmann Stadium has provided a distinct home field advantage for the Panthers, who have won over 70 percent of their games at the facility.

In addition to changes at the field, locker rooms have also recently been upgraded with meeting places and film room for players and coaches that features a large-screen television and video equipment. The athletic training and weight rooms also received upgrades in 2014-15.

Permanent bleachers on the north side of the field, as well as temporary bleachers on the south side, provide for more than 1,500 fans. Space along the fences and grassy knolls provide room for an additional 500 fans to enjoy the action on the field.

The largest crowd ever to witness a soccer match at Engelmann Stadium came in 2015 when 4,030 fans filled the stands and lined the fences to see Milwaukee host crosstown rival Marquette in an early season showdown. That topped the previous record of 3,256 fans that were on hand in 2006 for the first night game ever played at the facility against Marquette. A women’s soccer stadium record 2,212 spectators turned out to see the No. 14 Panthers battle No. 12 Marquette in 2011 - a game that was televised live on Fox Soccer Channel.

A host of postseason matches have been played at Engelmann Stadium. In 2002, the Panther men were awarded the first home NCAA Tournament game since 1980 as 1,864 spectators turned out to see Milwaukee top Oakland, 2-1. The women were awarded their first NCAA Tournament home game back in 2011 when they took down Illinois State in the first round, 3-0.
