The Lynden Sculpture Garden offers a unique experience of art in nature through its collection of more than 50 monumental sculptures sited across 40 acres of park, lake and woodland.

Please note: we do not have paths at Lynden. We strongly advise suitable footwear.

The former home of Harry and Peg Bradley opened to the public in May 2010. The Lynden house and grounds were purchased by the Bradleys in 1927. They retained the Chicago landscape architects William Langford and Theodore Moreau to transform the flat farmland, with its small farmhouse and barn, into an English country garden. The lake and rustic bridge spanning the water were designed to match Harry Bradley’s memories of the municipal grounds in Kansas City where he swam as a boy. In 1962, Peg Bradley—already an experienced art collector—began collecting the contemporary monumental sculptures that secured Lynden’s international reputation. She collected actively until her death in 1978, often inviting artists to Lynden to site their works. The collection includes sculptures by Alexander Archipenko, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Clement Meadmore, Marta Pan, Tony Smith, Mark di Suvero and many others.

The Lynden Sculpture Garden is committed to promoting the enjoyment, understanding, and appreciation of art, sculpture and the environment through the exhibition of art and sculpture, educational experiences and connections with the community. Educational programming focuses on the intersection of art and nature, providing hands-on experiences that integrate Lynden’s collection of monumental outdoor sculpture with the natural ecology of the site. Prior to opening to the public, the house and a portion of the grounds were transformed using sustainable building and landscaping practices.

Thousands of plants bring the seasons to life at the Botanical Gardens, with colorful and fragrant displays laid out in 12 formal gardens. Explore a rose garden, peony garden and daylily garden; stroll under blossoming crabapples; and enjoy the view while at an event in the Garden Room. Boerner Botanical Gardens is located just 15 minutes outside of Milwaukee in the Village of Hales Corners. Visit throughout the year to see the different gardens in bloom.

**Thursday nights, in preparation for Concerts in The Gardens, the Children's Garden closes for the day at 4 p.m.

This 3-acre garden is designed especially for children. The flower-themed garden features an "enchanted village" with a playhouse, fiddlehead path, twig hut and mushroom-chair rings. Additionl spaces within Margie's Garden incllude a sound garden, secret garden, bug garden with friendly bug sculptures, a storybook nook, a pollinator garden, sunflower garden, and prairie and wildflower zones.

In keeping with its educational mission, Boerner Botanical Gardens offers a Trial Garden, featuring over 500 new varities of plants. These plants are tested for their suitability for the Great Lakes region.

Groundwork Milwaukee is a nonprofit organization and land trust. Our work is primarily done through (1) the transformation of brownfields into community spaces including gardens, orchards, art exhibits, and gathering places; (2) the facilitation of programs that are designed to educate, train, and empower youth, community members, veterans, and volunteers; and (3) the protection of urban waters through the installation of rain water harvesting structures, the strategic integration of green infrastructure, and habitat restoration for aquatic native species. Our work reflects the objectives of our national chapter Groundwork USA.

Our most current report, Milwaukee Flood Health Vulnerability Assessment, and the Storymap that accompanies it tell of the history of housing discrimination in Milwaukee, and the impacts of climate change in one neighborhood, Metcalfe Park. We’ve spent the last year assisting neighbors developing and installing green solutions in areas which are vulnerable to flood and extreme heat.

Victory Garden Initiative builds communities that grow their own food, to create a community-led, socially just, environmentally sustainable, nutritious food system for all.

Our slogan is: “This is a grassroots movement. Move grass. Grow food.”, and we implement this through the following programs: Great Milwaukee Victory Garden BLITZ, Victory Garden Urban Farm, Youth Education Programming (YEP!), Harvest Season Farmstand, and Volunteer and Intern Engagement. Through these programs and more, VGI is able to bring communities together to teach them how to grow food and supply them with the means to create their own sustainable community.

Victory Garden Initiative believes that every person, in every household, can connect to their food source through the act of growing it. This act reminds us that we are of the earth, that we cannot live without the earth; that our needs are met, not by the economy, but by the earth. Growing food will re-integrate us with deep ecology, guiding our culture towards a sustainable, abundant future, freed from financial inequalities.

When fruit trees fill our parks, and nut trees are harvested by our neighbors, when food pantries house vegetable gardens and school children participate in growing their lunches, we will have a secure, sovereign, socially just and sustainable food system.

Victory Garden Initiative launched in 2009 when a group of community members recognized the negative environmental, social, economic, and health implications of our dominant food system. The solution was building communities that grow their own food. VGI has rallied to install over 3,500 gardens, launch a 1.5-acre urban farm, plant 26 orchards in low-income neighborhoods, teach adults and children how to grow food, and train 68 community Food Leaders. Our annual event, The Great Milwaukee Victory Garden BLITZ, has gained so much momentum that it has expanded to conducting BLITZ training in other communities like Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Berea, Kentucky.
