Tosa Yoga Center was founded by the husband and wife team Melanie and Guy Landgraf.

Since 2006, our mission has always been to nurture an open, warm, and welcoming space for the practice of yoga. We’re seriously dedicated to our students and community — it’s truly the reason we are here.

We have several classes that work well for beginners. All of our “beginner-friendly” classes are marked with a star * in the class descriptions section.

How do I know if I’m ready for a more advanced class?

If you have taken classes for a few months and feel comfortable with the basic postures of Tosa Yoga Flow or Mellow Flow, and very importantly, you have an interest in trying a more physically challenging class, then we encourage you to try one! During class, we will still offer lower intensity options and modifications to take as desired.

Certified Iyengar Yoga instructors guide students of all ages and physical abilities to experience yoga in a safe, accessible, and rewarding way. Instructors are held to a rigorous standard. Only after years of training and evaluation do they become certified. Instructors modify classic asanas (postures) for individual students with the use of props such as blocks, blankets, and belts which allow students to go deeper into an asana.

Iyengar Yoga instructors use their deep-seated knowledge of the asanas to individualize corrections for each student. Students know they are observed and if necessary, are adjusted. Clear demonstrations of the posture, a well-developed eye, and specific teaching points are the standards of an Iyengar Yoga instructor.

Emphasis is put on the standing asanas and in time, other asanas are added which include forward bends, back bends, twists, inversions, and restorative poses. Salamba Sarvangasana (Shoulder Balance) is introduced when students are ready because of its many therapeutic benefits. Each class ends with Savasana, or corpse pose, for deep relaxation. Students learn to rest in a profound way, completely releasing the body while drawing the mind toward inner peace.

As the student progresses, Pranayama (the control of the breath) is introduced. Instructors devise sequences of poses which build skill and understanding, from posture to posture, and class to class. Students are encouraged to develop their own home practice; without one, the study of yoga is incomplete.

Called the "Michelangelo of yoga" B.K.S. Iyengar was recognized as the world's greatest yoga teacher.

Iyengar brought yoga to the west with his pioneer teaching in the 1970s, the start of today’s explosive growth in yoga. His seminal manual, Light on Yoga, called the "Bible" of yoga has been the guide for generations of yoga students. His most recent work, Light on Yoga, led to a world tour of standing-room-only appearances.

His innovations in the use of props, now ubiquitous in yoga studios of all styles, reshaped the art. Blankets, belts, and other devices allow students to work safely in the yoga asanas. Iyengar also reshaped the therapeutic applications of yoga which helped validate yoga as legitimate treatment for serious medical conditions.

Perhaps the most groundbreaking aspect of Mr. Iyengar’s teaching was that through the yoga asanas and Pranayama (the control of the breath) the practitioner can explore the most advanced stages of yoga which include concentration, true meditation, and even Samadhi; the mystical union of the individual soul of the student with the universal – God.

Mr. Iyengar bridged the gap between traditional distinctions between hatha yoga, at times considered merely a physical form of yoga, and yogas which focus on the intellect, devotion, and meditation. Mr. Iyengar brought the spiritual nature and healing power of yoga to hundreds of thousands of students around the world.

If you like a physical challenge, the Hot Power Hour (at Healium Hot Yoga Bay View or West Allis) or some Healium HIIT might be right up your alley. If you crave something on the slower side with more meditation you might like the Yin or Slow Flow (at Healium Restore). With our four studio locations in Bay View and West Allis we are offering classes on both ends of the spectrum and even a little something in between!

Our classes are broken down into three different temperatures - HOT, GENTLY HEATED, and NOT HEATED.

Almost all classes at Healium Hot Yoga are GENTLY HEATED or HOT.

We had our baby girl at Authentic Birthing Center 5 months ago now. We’ve been meaning to write this review since the very beginning. This is absolutely our favorite place to go! We left feeling strangely very sad that our time there was over but also so joyful because we had the most precious newborn to love. My wife is pregnant with twins. I contacted Authentic to see if they could deliver twins, but state law does not allow for it. However, they suggested a doctor who believes strongly in natural birth instead of caesarian for twins, my wife met with him today, and she has now decided to work with him going forward. I had a traumatic hospital experience with my 1st baby due to the doctor pushing his agenda on me and doing interventions I didn't want or need. From day one I knew baby and I were in good hands. I never felt rushed or pressured into any decisions. I always felt heard and had all of my questions (no matter how menial) answered. Time and time again you reassured me that I could do this the way I wanted and that made all the difference in my healing from my previous experience.

Even though there were some bumps along the road (the early subchorionic hematoma and then baby's position near the end of the pregnancy), I always felt safe and secure under your care. The actual labor and delivery went so fast compared to what I had expected and prepared for. While I felt a little panicked about how fast it was going, your calm demeanor and presence helped ground me.
