Suzanne Boyd: Balzac has always felt a little overpriced for what it was, but sometimes worth it if that's just what we were in the mood for. However they are permanently closing soon.
Andrea Bartosh: First time visiting and had a fantastic experience! Extensive wine list, delicious dishes, cozy atmosphere, and great service. The "small plates" were larger than expected. A friend and I shared two small plates plus dessert and we were full. The brussel sprouts were fantastic, and the sauce with the pan seared snapper was so flavorful. The desserts also did not disappoint. The chocolate torte and the seasonal pumpkin cheesecake were both delicious. I will definitely be back for the wine and the food. 5 stars!
Brandon: Dined on a Sunday night at Balzac after recommendations from a couple of friends. The menu is constructed around shareable small plates, though there are some bigger entrees. There is plenty of wine to choose from though we didn't order any.We were seated quickly. It looked like there were only two servers for the dining room so I won't hold service against them on this visit. For as many tables as the servers worked, they stopped by plenty of times and were very pleasant. Depending where you sit, tables can be a bit too small and cluttered for sharing small plates.We did our best to share a couple of plates and also ordered cheeseburgers. We shared Peach Caprese and Sac Mac. Peach Caprese took full advantage of Peach season and kept this side simple and clean. I was a fan. The Sac Mac was well sauced and well balanced. Another win. The burger was delicious and straightforward; not an overwhelming amount of toppings. The french fries tasted exactly like McDonald's fries. Unsure if this is intentional. I would've preferred a thicker, twice fried french fry but their fries were not bad whatsoever.Overall, the prices at Balzac are reasonable and the portions fall in line with those prices. The food is prepared simply; they allow seasonal ingredients to shine. Execution was fine. I wasn't blown away by anything I ate, but nothing I had was bad. Balzac strikes me as a simple, reasonable and consistent local restaurant. I left satisfied and my wallet was happy with me. All wins in my book!

Gavin Lee: I really enjoyed the service and food! Unfortunately the ‘ automatic 18% service charge’ goes to the restaurant and not the waitress I had. I understand owning a local restaurant is not easy but this did make my bill higher than it needed to be since I am still leaving an additional tip for my waitress. Again, food and service was awesome though!

Jcg Gee: Went here for the first time yesterday for a family members birthday. Not the best atmosphere at all. The place is kind of dark and the decor is really dated. But the service was great. Majority of The food items we selected to share were really good. The cocktails were amazing as well. I am not a huge fan of sharable plates. But I enjoyed the restaurant.
Jingwen: **Great Spot!** Just came from La Merenda and had to share—what a refreshing change! Even though it was busy, our server made sure everything went smoothly. Food came out surprisingly fast, and every interaction was just pleasant. Really made our night compared to the earlier hassle we had. Thumbs up to La Merenda for nailing it on the service front!

I really contemplated getting a 2nd pizza...Stopped in for the Happy Hour specials right before a concert. The service was good, the drinks hit the spot right, but the spaghetti and meatball... the Caesars salads were pretty good. Even for happy hour prices, let's get back to the spaghetti and meatball. The sauce didn't have any flavor and tasted watered down and the meat ball was hideous. Not even on par with subway meatballs. Nonetheless I'd be back for the drinks and salad

Justin Thomaas: Tonight we had our first experience at Cavas, and it was absolutely incredible. Ana and her husband did an excellent job of making us feel welcome and comfortable in their restaurant. The drinks, food, and service were some of the best we’ve experienced in Milwaukee since moving here in 2020. Ana made a point to come to the table multiple times to explain what was being served as part of the prix fixe menu. The menu selection was truly wonderful. We also added on the wine pairing which was excellent.We will definitely be back!
Pat Locante: What an amazing find this quaint restaurant was for me and my husband. We were looking for a new place downtown and Cavas appeared in my search. We have taken family and friends there several times and recently held a private event there. Everyone we have introduced to this hidden Milwaukee gem has enjoyed their visit! Ana never disappoints! Her culinary skills are fantastic and we have sampled most all of what is offered on the menu. Some of our absolute favorites are the Pimiento, stuffed dates, empanadas, paella and all of the desserts. I could seriously list all of the offerings on the menu as there is nothing we haven't enjoyed. My only caution is if you don't want to be disappointed ... Make a Reservation! I wouldn't want anyone to set their sights on a fabulous dinner at Cavas and it be too busy to get in.

Carmen Garcia Sirera: Amilinda delivers authenticity. There are many restaurants out there claiming culinary uniqueness, but at the end they fall short. Amilinda brings the flavors of Spain and Portugal without creating copycat versions of traditional Iberian Peninsula dishes. All the dishes arw prepared and made to deliver an experience. And thar experience does not end with the amazing dishes. The casual but classy ambience can be experienced from the moment walking in, to sitting in the table or counter for dinner, to the interaction with the wonderful staff. Patricia Gabarra: Delicious as always! I dined in with some friends on Feb 7, 2024. It had been a while, as a don’t live in Milwaukee. Everyone loved their appetizers and enthusiastically shared them - Spanish style. I selected the braised endives and their were delicious and a very light and clever preparation. As much as I love tasty veggies I also like meat. So it was a familiar and comforting choice for me: the pork carcamusa. The serving was generous as usual and the good thing about this dish is that it is just as good if not better as a leftover - YUM. The bartender proposed his Spanish twist on a Mai Tai and it was delicious. Service was friendly and casual and the dining atmosphere can’t be beat if you are looking for charm with a genuine flair of a Mediterranean restaurant. It reminds me of home, Spain, every time. Morgan S: Stopped in at Braise last night with a friend for the 3-course dinner! You won’t find better ingredients or a better deal. It is truly a one of a kind dining experience and the food is AMAZING—not to mention generously portioned. From start to finish you get a choice between two delicious appetizers, two main course items, and choice between two desserts. This was my second time to Braise and I look forward to coming back. I had the mushroom risotto and highly recommend it. The waitstaff and bartenders are very friendly and add to the overall experience. Perfect for date night with the hubby, or drinks with your girlfriends!
Angela Zuniga: Great service every time we dine in! Perfect date night or even our larger girls nights out are always a hit when we dine at Braise. The waitstaff makes sure we are well taken care of and and is knowledgeable about the food they are serving. They accommodate our many dietary restrictions and the food is always fresh and delicious! Easily the best date night spot in Milwaukee. A must visit.
Liz Fiene: First time having Xiao long bao and I have never had anything like this before! It was my favorite item we tried of the night, would definitely have again if it appeared back on the menu. I love that the ingredients are local and the menu rotates to bring me out of my comfort zone and try new things. Since m still exploring and determining what flavors I like/don’t like, I enjoy that the bartenders can make me something with just some personal input and some questions. I’ve only been here during the winter season but I am looking forward to patio season and I hope they have the patio/rooftop open in addition to their normal seating once summer hits! I just signed up for their tamales cooking class in May and I am looking forward to seeing this side of the restaurant next!
Megan Fiene: I love coming to Braise and eating in the bar area. Their booths and candle lights give a cozy atmosphere and can make a perfect date night. Sit at the bar to enjoy fun conversations and witness Flan and Evan crafting up the amazing cocktails behind the bar. Even if you don’t see a drink on the menu that catches your eyes, they can make anything you are feeling or give them the freedom to surprise you with a “dealers choice” cocktail. We reserved the upstairs room, including the outdoor space that provided a beautiful view of the city.Becky Ayala, the restaurant manager, was a dream to work with. She was responsive to my emails and detail-oriented, which was so helpful during the reception planning process.The beautifully decorated room dazzled guests the moment they arrived at Braise and established the vibe for the rest of the room’s design. We also loved having the outdoor space, which was perfectly decorated, with floral arrangements placed everywhere. We opted for a family-style dinner. Locally sourced seasonal food inspired the menu of Mixed Green Salad, Lemon Risotto, Montreal Chicken and Soy Braised Beef. The food was delicious and the two wedding cocktails, Crazy Dave’s Old Fashioned and Rhubarb Lemonade were wonderful and flavorful. Our waiter, Kira and David, our bartender, were exceptional and on top of everything. The timing of the dishes was efficiently paced to allow sufficient time in between dishes.Everything was superb, and our guests raved about the venue and the food. I cannot recommend Becky and her team highly enough. You will not regret booking your venue in Braise.

We booked out the first floor and the split between cocktails in the bar area and dinner in the dining room was a nice little change of setting. The braised beef, pork buns, and chocolate mouse were hits, guests even took leftovers home. The lemon curd wedding cake made by the pastry chefs was great and beautifully but tastefully decorated. I hope we can come back for all our anniversaries.Wheelchair accessibility: My significant other's mom is in an electric wheelchair and it was easy for her to get in and navigate around the first floor.

Ceviche was marinated so well, amazing with the fresh tortilla chips. Our entrees was the Camarones Antigua and Cochinita Pibil. I have tried a lot of Cochinita, and this was by far the best. I just wish there was more tortillas with it. The camarone antigua was fantastic as well, the chipotle sauce really pieced the entire dish together wonderfully. The black gold margarita is a must. The place is clean and looks pretty inside, atmosphere gives off the vibe of being at a tias house, very homey.

Curtis: Great food, great atmosphere. We came in for lunch and it was a bit understaffed, had to wait more time for our food, but other than that we had a great time there. Owner and bartender were really nice.
Tania Gainza: I got the bibimbap with tofu. Tofu was crisp on the outside just wish there was more of it. The rice was charred on the bottom as they served it in a cast iron dish. The rice in places was burned however so mixed feelings on that. The cauliflower appetizer was delicious just wish they had charred it a bit like they did with the shishito peppers on top. The sauce was delicious. The plum soju really was not drinkable. The plum Collins was good but wasn't strong enough and there wasn't much in the glass. The leaky chicken appetizer was delicious seemed like it was lightly fried on the outside as were the leek strips. Overall food is solid. Service was ridiculously slow and it was hard to get the servers attention when we needed it. However, she did help clean up a couple of spills which was much appreciated and she was in good spirits in general. Atmosphere was a bit too loud but the ambiance and overall presentation inside is very nice.Vegetarian options: Lots of options to get things with tofu and lots of vegetable options.

It comes with an egg on top so I requested without that. Listed as vegan option so was a little surprised when ordering with tofu that they didn’t ask if I wanted with egg or not. Veg and vegan items labeled. GF listed clearly too. Tofu was fried. Prefer tofu not fried but it was a yummy and fun change of pace.
Cloey Nieves Knapp: seriously such a hidden gem downtown, i go there every month and there’s very few people dining when i dine in however the restaurants atmosphere is beautiful and the place has wonderful seating of varying party sizes and the food is amazing - i have only had problems with the servers being infrequent with checking in but overall the place is lovely and would recommend for anyone to try.

Jean & Larry Rusch: We went there yesterday after an 11 year absence .. thanks to a newspaper review. It is a marvelous gastronomical experience. Great Levantine area cuisine: turkey, Syria, Lebanon etc. The menu is a surprise til you sit down. This was last menu this school year. We’ll be back in fall when the restaurant is open again with new students.

Food is fabulous, creative and 5 star all the way…. But portions are small for the price. Example: 1 piece of sourdough bread with butter $8. Mind you, it was one of the best pieces of bread I’ve had in a long time, but may also be the generous amount of butter you can slather on it. The ambience is like a 1960’s living room …. Great decor!Vegetarian options: They have a delicious Rissoto, snd several small vegetarian small plates.

Madyun Wilson: Although we only sat at the bar The Diplomat is an amazing hidden treasure. We received 5-star dining service on Brady which is a very energetic neighborhood. Parking was quicker than usual and we were seated immediately. Our waiters and bartenders were exceptional representing this fine establishment. The steak was cooked to perfection the short rib as well. The hash brown fish fry was to die for and the drinks are strong! What more could we ask for, definitely an upscale choice I would consider again!

Jezzie O: Right off the bat... friendly attentative hosteses. The restaurant was beautiful. Great bread and sparkling waterr upon request. The drinks were tasty and robust. The salad was fresh and crisp. I choose the filet medallions with foie gras... it was nothing less than ahhhmazing. I definitely recommend. I was too full for dessert but there's an item I'm definitely coming back for!I appreciate this restaurant.
